Product policy

Unknown is an honest answer. It is also free.

Email servers do not always reveal whether a specific mailbox exists. When Peopledat cannot return a useful verdict, the result does not consume a credit.

What “unknown” means

Unknown does not mean valid or invalid. It means the checks available at that moment did not support a decisive result. Keep it separate from your strongest deliverable and undeliverable segments and apply your own risk policy.

  • The receiving server timed out or temporarily limited verification traffic.
  • A catch-all domain accepted every mailbox probe without confirming a specific address.
  • The available checks disagreed or did not provide enough evidence for a useful verdict.

The billing rule

$0

charged for an unknown result

Peopledat reserves enough credits to start a run, then returns the credit for each unknown or failed result during settlement. Your dashboard reports the credits actually used.

A simple example

If a 1,000-address run returns 960 useful verdicts and 40 unknowns, it uses 960 credits—not 1,000. The actual mix depends on the domains and server behavior in your list.

Verification still cannot guarantee delivery or inbox placement. Mailboxes change, sender reputation matters, and some servers deliberately hide recipient details.
